PCR plate selection gets easier once the lab has answered two basic questions: how many reactions will run together, and which plate format fits the existing workflow? A-GEN's PCR plate range includes 40 uL, 100 uL and 200 uL nominal capacities. The range is not one plate in different colours; it includes 96-well and 384-well products, plus no-skirt, semi-skirt, full-skirt, high-skirt and detachable formats.
For higher-density work, the current range includes 40 uL 384-well plates. PCR-402-W is listed as a full-skirt plate with a white frame and white tubes. The PCR brochure also lists two other 40 uL, 384-well full-skirt configurations: PCR-401-CW with a white frame and clear tubes, and PCR-401-C-P with a clear frame and clear tubes. Check the live product page and the approved technical sheet before selecting a specific model, because the catalogue description alone is not a fit check for a particular instrument or seal.
The 96-well range includes 100 uL and 200 uL formats. Examples on the current product page include PCR-96BR-LF-CW-P, a 100 uL full-skirt plate, PCR-96BR-HF-C-P, a 200 uL full-skirt plate, and PCR-96-HH-C, a 200 uL transparent high-skirt plate. Where a workflow calls for a detachable configuration, the brochure identifies PCR-96R1-HS-C as a 200 uL, 24 x 4 detachable format.
Capacity tells you the nominal volume of a well. It does not tell you the plate footprint, well depth, skirt height or whether a plate will fit a particular thermal cycler, seal or automated workstation. Those points need to be confirmed for the exact model number. That distinction is worth making before a purchase order is raised: two 200 uL plates can be similar in capacity and still be different products.
